🤝 PNP, BARMM Execs Collaborate to Enhance Mindanao Security 🛡️

Gen. Benjamin Acorda Jr., the chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), recently met with Al Haj Murad Ebrahim, the chief minister of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), to discuss cooperative efforts aimed at further improving the security situation in Mindanao.

Acorda stated that Ebrahim’s visit to Camp Crame on Friday signified the BARMM officials’ dedication to maintaining peace and order in the region, particularly following a recent incident in Muslim, where a police officer was injured and clashes between law enforcement personnel and a former vice mayor of Maimbung town ensued.

“This was an official visit and served as a renewal of commitment to the path of peace, particularly in the BARMM area. As the PNP, we acknowledge the existing mechanisms for maintaining peace and order in the region,” Acorda stated in a Saturday statement.

He further emphasized the need to enhance cooperation and active coordination, with the ultimate goal of de-escalating hostilities in Mindanao. Acorda expressed the hope of achieving progress and development in the region while minimizing the loss of lives and other conflicts.

The violent encounter, triggered by the service of arrest warrants against Pando Mudjasan, resulted in over 6,000 residents being displaced from their homes. The incident was attributed to a lack of coordination.

Mudjasan remains large, and the PNP works closely with BARMM to conduct pursuit operations.

Acorda and Ebrahim also discussed security preparations for the upcoming Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections scheduled for October 30.

“This is also one of the topics we discussed earlier with BARMM officials, where we agreed to support one another. We identified certain areas where we perceive the presence of threat groups,” Acorda shared.

Ebrahim assured the PNP and the Armed Forces of the Philippines that they would do their best to uphold peace and order in the region.

“We know that BARMM has experienced significant instability in past years. However, we are gradually returning to normalcy. We assure the PNP that we will assist in implementing peace and order measures in the area,” Ebrahim stated, as quoted by the PNP.
