Senate Commits to Pass 20 LEDAC Bills Before December Break ποΈ
ποΈ Manila – The Senate leadership has pledged to the Legislative-Executive Development Advisory Council (LEDAC) to prioritize the passage of 20 key bills before the year concludes, according to Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri. During a press conference on Tuesday, Zubiri shared the list of priority measures they intend to work on.
“Two weeks ago, we had a meeting with LEDAC where we committed the part of the Senate to turn 20 bills into laws by December 2023, before our December break,” Zubiri said.
Among the priority bills to be tackled are the legislative wage hike and several other measures supported by senators, which Zubiri called “happy bills.”
— Amendments to the Build-Operate-Transfer Law or known as the Public-Private Partnership Bill;
— The establishment of the National Disease Prevention Management Authority or the Center for Disease Prevention bill;
— The Internet Transactions eCommerce Law;
— The Medical Reserve Corps bill;
— The establishment of the Virology Institute of the Philippines;
— The Mandatory Reserve Officers Training Corps and National Service Training Program;
— The Revitalizing of the Salt Industry Bill;
— The Valuation Reform Act;
— The eGovernment/eGovernance Act
— The Ease of Paying Taxes bill;
— The National Government Rightsizing Program;
— The Unified System of Separation, Retirement, and Pension Fund of Military and Uniformed Personnel;
— The Local Government Units Income Classification bill;
— The Ways to Energy bill;
— The New Philippine Passport Act;
— The Magna Carta for Filipino Seafarers;
— The National Employment Action Plan;
— Amendments to the Anti-Agricultural Smuggling Act;
— Amendments to the Bank Secrecy Law; and
— The Anti-Financial Scamming Act
Despite challenges, the Senate enacted six laws, four of national application, and two local laws before its sine die adjournment.
Zubiri also highlighted the approval of eight out of 42 priority measures set by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. The Subscriber Identity Module Registration Act, the Act Postponing the Barangay Elections, and the Armed Forces of the Philippines Fixed Term Law have already been signed into law.
With determination and a clear plan, the Senate aims to uphold its commitment to the Filipino people in creating meaningful legislation that addresses the country’s pressing issues and brings about positive change.
