Face shields are only required in medical facilities in QC.

Face shields are only required within hospitals and quarantine facilities in Quezon City, according to the city government, which debunked yet another hoax on Monday.

Mayor Joy Belmonte rejected the erroneous information that has been circulating on social media in a phone interview on Monday.

“I’d like to make it clear that, as far as the municipal ordinance and the IATF (Inter-Agency Task Force) protocols are concerned, it’s only within hospitals, quarantine facilities, and any high-risk sites,” Belmonte added, urging the public not to be fooled by bogus news.

Face shields are not necessary for public areas, according to QC Ordinance No. 3079, and will only be required under Alert Level 5.

“Under Alert Level 5, all persons shall wear a face shield on top of a face mask at all times while onboard public transportation, inside markets, or in indoor and enclosed spaces of identified commercial establishments and workplaces in Quezon City, regardless of the length of time in such public transportation, markets, or indoor and enclosed spaces of identified commercial establishments and workplaces, the purpose for being there, or proximity to another person,” the order states.

On Monday, the mayor deployed a team to a mall in Cubao District and a grocery in Barangay Kamuning in response to allegations that customers were denied access because they did not have face shields.

“Sana ay ipaskil nila ang board resolution na’yan sa pinaka-visible part ng kanilang premises para ang taong bayan ay makita na ito ay patakaran ng (If the private management passed a resolution, they should post it in the most visible part of their premises so that people will know that this is the rule of the) mall,” Belmonte said.

She went on to say that if the private establishment did not comply, it may be fined.

The public can report such events to the city hotline 122 unless there is a resolution requiring face shields.

The city had 20,402 active Covid-19 cases as of Sunday.
