Due to a variety of technical issues, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) has moved the start of the production of official ballots for the May 9, 2022, national and local elections to Thursday.

The start of the printing has been moved from Wednesday to Thursday, according to Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez.

“The printing committee has moved the start of printing to a date to be disclosed,” he stated in a statement, citing different technical constraints. “The tentative start date for ballot printing is January 20, 2022.”

He emphasized that the rescheduling will have no impact on the polls this year.

“The committee assures the public that the Comelec’s election preparations will not be harmed as a result of the delayed start,” he stated.

“The ballot faces will be issued as soon as the finalization process is concluded,” Jimenez added.

For the May elections, a total of 67,442,714 ballots will be printed.

The overall number of ballots to be printed for local voting is 65,745,512, while the total number of ballots to be printed for overseas voting is 1,697,202.
