A medication designed for individuals with recurring, metastatic, or advanced lung cancer has commenced Phase 1 trials in Turkey.

The Phase 1a trial will enlist the help of 16 volunteers to identify the highest tolerated dose for patients, while the Phase 1b study will focus on the medication’s efficacy and safety in ten more patients.

The drug was developed by Rana Nomak Sanyal, a chemistry professor at Bogazici University, and her colleagues.

Fevzi Altuntas, the head of the Ankara Oncology Training and Research Hospital’s Phase 1a research, told Anadolu Agency that experts are collaborating to assure Turkiye’s health self-sufficiency to the point when it can produce its own medications.

Altuntas went on to say that the hospital’s Clinical Research Center has taken on substantial national and international responsibilities.

He cited 114 international Phase 2 and Phase 3 studies, a national virus-like particle (VLP) vaccine, Car-T-cell treatment, and seven Phase 1 cancer trials as examples of the research center’s accomplishments.
