Vax sites will be set up in MRT-3 and LRT-2 stations by the Department of Transportation.
As part of the Department of Transportation’s (DOTr) efforts to encourage immunization against the coronavirus disease 2019, commuters will soon be able to get vaccinated in select stations of the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) and the Light Rail Transit Line 2 (LRT-2) (Covid-19).
Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade said on Monday night’s Talk to the People that four stations are being considered for mobile vaccination sites: the Ayala, Boni, and Shaw Boulevard MRT-3 stations, as well as the Araneta-Cubao station, which is accessible through both the MRT-3 and the LRT-2.
“Nag-identify ko kami ng mga lugar na kung saan magtatayo kami – of course, sa pagtatayo ng facility nito ay may permission dapat ‘yung Department of Health) Of course, we would obtain approval from the Department of Health before establishing these vaccine sites),” Tugade stated.
He added that this is in addition to the mobile vaccination station that went live on Monday at the Paraaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX).
“Inaasahan namin na magkakaroon kami ng mga 500 na bakunado kada araw-araw (At the PITX], we hope to vaccinate roughly 500 people per day),” Tugade added.
He added that space has been prepared aside at Terminal 4 of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) for a vaccination site if it becomes required, in order to cater to flight travellers.
He also mentioned that a vaccination station for marine travellers is being established at the Manila North harbor.
“We will set up immunization facilities in all sectors of the Kagawaran (department) in compliance with the regulations, policies, and requirements of (the) DOH,” Tugade added.
The Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) established a mobile vaccination site at the PITX on Monday to boost the government’s vaccination campaign and improve the safety of passengers and workers in public transportation.
MMDA Chair Benjamin “Benhur” Abalos Jr. indicated during the launch that the PITX is the project’s “pilot site” and that it will be expanded in the future.
