Comelec’s drop of an ex-Isabela solon earns a TRO from SC.
The Supreme Court has issued a new temporary restraining order (TRO) against the Commission on Elections (Comelec) decision to reject a candidate’s application for a local office in the May elections.
The SC en banc issued the TRO in favor of former Isabela 4th District Rep. Giorgidi Aggabao in an order signed by Clerk of Court Marife M. Lomibao-Cuevas on January 25 and released Wednesday.
The Comelec dismissed Aggabao’s request to replace former mayor Amelita Navarro as the official candidate of the Partido para sa Demokratikong Reporma for the mayoralty campaign in Santiago City, Isabela, on December 22.
The tribunal further ordered the poll board to refrain from enforcing its order in the matter and to respond to the petition within ten days.
Despite the TROs issued by the high court in favor of the proclaimed nuisance candidates, the poll commission announced on Tuesday that it will proceed with the printing of ballots for the May 9 polls. (
