By the end of the year, Duterte expects PH to have met its Covid-19 vaccine goals.
President Rodrigo Duterte expects the Philippines to meet its coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) vaccine target before the end of the year, following the start of a three-day statewide immunization blitz.
“By the end of 2021, we expect to have fully vaccinated 54 million Filipinos; we also aim to inoculate 80 percent of the population of minors aged 12 to 17 years; and finish booster shots for those belonging to the A1, A2, and A3 sectors,” Duterte said during the launch of the three-day national vaccination event, dubbed “Bayanihan, Bakunahan,” held in SM Masinag, Antipolo City, Rizal.
From November 29 to December 1, Bayanihan, Bakunahan wants to vaccinate roughly 9 million people in 8,000 sites throughout 16 regions nationally.
The event was described by Duterte as the country’s “single biggest effort” to accelerate immunization and achieve its objectives.
He urged Filipinos to keep combating Covid-19 by being vaccinated and adhering to minimal public health standards, emphasizing the necessity of a “whole-of-nation strategy” to victory over the virus.
“We shall overcome this pandemic with God’s abiding grace and our real malasakit (compassion) for our fellow Filipinos,” he continued.
Meanwhile, Duterte praised national and local government agencies, as well as their commercial partners, for beginning the Bayanihan, Bakunahan vaccination campaign.
He described the event as a resounding representation of the Filipino bayanihan spirit, which falls on November 30, the nation’s Bonifacio Day.
“Indeed, Gat Andres Bonifacio’s great example of heroism resonates in everyone of us as we work together to accelerate and strengthen our efforts to fight this pandemic,” he said.
He also praised the Department of Health, the Department of Interior and Local Government, and the National Task Force Against Covid-19 for a successful immunization campaign and engagement with the business sector to supply and distribute Covid-19 vaccine doses across the country.
During the ceremony, Duterte oversaw the ceremonial simultaneous vaccination of people in the A1 to A4 categories, as well as children aged 12 to 17.
Workers in frontline health services fall into the A1 group; older adults fall into the A2 category; people with comorbidities go into the A3 category; and people with comorbidities fall into the A4 category (frontline personnel in essential sectors including uniformed personnel).
He also handed some vaccine recipients free milk tea.
