According to a Department of Health (DOH)-Central Visayas official, access to booster doses of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) vaccines in Cebu may soon become easier as more pharmacies join the “Resbakuna sa Botika” program.

DOH-7 head pathologist, Dr. Mary Jean Loreche, reviewed the criteria for providing inoculations at drugstores in the province at a meeting with pharmacies and pharmaceutical firms conducted at the Visayas Vaccination Operations Center (VVOC) in Mandaue City.

“Watsons Philippines, Mercury Drug, Rose Pharmacy, 360 Pharmacy, La Nueva Pharmacy, Bing Pharmacy, and Evercare Pharmacy were among the seven (pharmaceutical companies) who attended the conference,” Loreche added.

Representatives from the Philippine Pharmaceutical Association – Cebu Chapter and the Drugstore Association of the Philippines – Cebu Chapter also helped set out the procedures and norms for inoculation at their respective branches, she said.

Representatives from the health departments of the city’s local government units, as well as the adjacent cities of Mandaue and Lapu-Lapu, attended the coordination meeting with the drugstores, according to Loreche.

“We’ll attempt to fine-tune what we’ve talked about today, and it’s definitely a go,” she said, adding that the “good news is that they (drugstores) will focus on administering booster shots.”

The health authority anticipates an increase in the number of people seeking booster shots as a result of this development.

142,525 people in Cebu province have received booster doses, accounting for only 6.2 percent of the 2.3 million people who are eligible.

This city accounted for 45 percent of the total number of people who had booster shots on Cebu Island, or 64,723 people, with the 44 towns and six component cities accounting for 38 percent, or 54,602.

Booster shots were given to 16,641 and 6,559 people in the cities of Mandaue and Lapu-Lapu, respectively.
