Following the successful first nationwide vaccination drive performed last week, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) announced on Wednesday that 17 million workers have been properly vaccinated against Covid-19.

“More people, notable workers, got vaccinated as a result of the vaccination days initiative,” Labor Assistant Secretary Dominique Tutay stated in a televised interview. “We now have 17 million completely vaccinated workers, up from 10 million prior to the 3-day immunization program.”

According to Tutay, more personnel need to be vaccinated against dangerous illnesses.

“This (the number of completely vaccinated) is a significant accomplishment,” she added, “but if you look at the labor market, there is a lot more to be vaccinated.”

During the first “Bayanihan, Bakunahan” immunization days from Nov. 29 to Dec. 3, the Department of Health (DOH) claimed that over 10 million doses of the Covid-19 vaccine were administered.

The government plans to hold another national immunization push from December 15 to 17, with the goal of reaching its goal of fully vaccinating 54 million Filipinos by the end of the year.

“I believe that by December 31, 2021, we will have surpassed 54 million properly vaccinated,” acting presidential spokesman Karlo Nograles said in an interview with CNN Philippines’ The Source on Wednesday.
