A new ICARE center has opened in Iloilo City.

The local government here said on Tuesday that after its opening on February 4, the second Iloilo City Action and Response (ICARE) center in Barangay Balantang in Jaro District is ready to serve the neighboring communities.

In a virtual press conference on Tuesday, Mayor Jerry P. Treas remarked, “This is highly important in the sense that it would encompass barangays in Jaro and will be able to cater to the requirements of our residents in those regions.”

The first center, which opened in November of last year in Barangay Calumpang in Molo District, was established.

According to the mayor, a comparable center is being developed in Jaro’s Barangay Ungka, and similar facilities will be created in La Paz’s Barangay Nabitasan; City Proper’s Barangay Esperanza; Arevalo’s Barangay Sooc; and Mandurriao’s Megaworld.

Trauma situations, motor accidents, medical emergencies, and even the transport of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) patients are all handled by the ICARE clinics.

The emergency operations center backs up each center with an ambulance.

The satellite centers, according to Donna Magno, head of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), are a tremendous help because the activities are already downloaded to the district level and they don’t have to rely on their resources at the emergency operations center.

During the same virtual press conference, she said, “We can count on the barangays in the district to help us out.”

The satellite centers are linked to the Gaisano Iloilo City Center (ICC) command center, which is nearing completion along Diversion Road in Mandurriao district, and the emergency operations center at the motor pool.

The system is set up so that emergency calls are routed to the command center, where they will be routed to the nearest satellite, or they can call the nearest ICARE center directly using their accessible hotlines.

“We made purchases for our emergency telecommunications network as part of updating the equipment within our emergency operations center as early as last year.” “We’ll be using this equipment in our ICARE centers as well,” Magno stated.
