In Davao City, 147 additional people have recovered from Covid-19.

DAVAO CITY, Philippines — As of Wednesday, the Department of Health in the Davao Region (DOH -11) reported that 147 additional coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases have recovered in Davao City, outnumbering the city’s new cases.

The DOH-11 noted in its most recent bulletin that overall recoveries had risen to 68,775 after 147 more patients had recovered from the condition. In contrast, 94 new cases have been reported in the city, increasing the total number of Covid-19 infections in the city to 993 since the pandemic began in 2020.

Active cases in the region have decreased to 5,672, accounting for 4.2 percent of the total 133,772 cumulative cases.

“We are grateful that the number of instances has decreased…. In a virtual interview with Davao City Disaster Radio, Dr. Michelle Schlosser, the DOH-11 medical health officer, said, “We are still monitoring its continual decrease.”

According to a DOH-11 official, Davao City has already vaccinated 85.14 percent of its whole population of nearly 1.6 million people.

“Previously, we were only aiming to vaccinate to achieve population immunity, but today our goal is to vaccinate the entire population,” Schlosser said, adding that booster doses are also important for people who have completed their immunizations.

“We’re also beefing up our push to encourage individuals to receive booster shots.” It’s an extra layer of defense, with a 25-fold increase in protection against infection and illness severity,” she explained.

Alert No. 2

Meanwhile, the city will be on Alert Level 2 from February 16 until February 28, 2022.

Low transmission and falling Covid-19 cases, low healthcare utilization, or case counts are low but increasing, or case counts are low and decreasing but total bed usage rate and intensive care unit utilization rate are increasing in areas classified as Alert Level 2.

Under Alert Level 2, establishments or activities are allowed to operate or be undertaken at a maximum of 50 percent indoor venue capacity for fully vaccinated individuals and those under 18 years of age, even if unvaccinated, and 70 percent outdoor venue capacity for fully vaccinated individuals and those under 18 years of age, even if unvaccinated, according to the DOH.

“Provided, however, that all workers/employees of these establishments are completely vaccinated against Covid-19 and that basic public health standards are strictly adhered to.” “Provided, therefore, that the LGU where these operations may take place has no objection,” the agency stated.

Meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions are permitted, as are permitted social gatherings, visitor or tourist attractions, amusement parks or theme parks, recreational venues, cinemas, and movie theaters.

Dine-in food preparation services, such as kiosks, commissaries, restaurants, and diners, are also permitted, subject to Department of Trade and Industry sector-specific standards.

On the other hand, limited face-to-face or in-person classes for basic education are still available, subject to the Office of the President’s approval; limited face-to-face or in-person classes for higher education and technical-vocational education and training; in-person religious gatherings; and gatherings for necrological services, wakes, inurnment, and funerals for those who died of causes other than Covid-19 and for the cremains of the Covid-19 deceased are also available.
