In the face of the pandemic, more workers are quitting, preferring hybrid work.
MANILA, Philippines — According to a study conducted by Sprout Solutions, a local software as a service (SaaS) provider, many Filipinos have resigned from their employment due to the epidemic, and some prefer hybrid work.
According to the survey, voluntary resignation increased by 176 percent across all industries in the Philippines.
“In 2020, the average rate of voluntary attrition was 1.31 percent. In 2021, it grew to 2.27 percent, a 73-percent increase in average voluntary attrition across industries, according to Sprout Solutions chief product officer Kislay Chandra, who spoke on Thursday in a webinar.
The abrupt changes in the working scheme, lack of work-life balance, and the uncertainty surrounding the pandemic were among the reasons why workers preferred to quit, according to the report.
“Some employees have suffered as a result of this, particularly in terms of their mental health.” Layoffs, wage reduction, and other cost-cutting tactics were also used by management, according to Chandra.
Others chose to work at their dream careers, while others chose to stay at home with their children. The virus and their health are more of a concern for the other respondents if they return to onsite work.
The survey by Sprout Solutions revealed some of the industries with high attrition rates. Professional, scientific, and technical services; construction; arts, entertainment, and recreation; water supply, sewerage, and waste management; and information and communication were among the categories.
Because of the epidemic and health procedures, many people have chosen a mixed work style.
Arlene De Castro, Sprout Solutions’ chief people, and customer officer noted a recent local Cisco research called “Workforce of the Future,” which found that 18 percent of respondents were working from home prior to the pandemic. This number increased to 93 percent.
“During the pandemic, onsite workers in the Philippines who still report for in-office work have reevaluated their objectives.” To function in the Philippines, the hybrid model must be inclusive, flexible, secure, and well-managed, according to De Castro.
According to Sprout’s “The Future of Work” research, 47% of in-office work leaders want to adopt the hybrid work model, while 62% envision hybrid or remote work as the dominating paradigm in the future.
About 42% of in-office professionals are enthusiastic about embracing a hybrid working environment, with 34% preferring it to their existing work-from-home situation.
“Those who work from home see the value of adopting hybrid as well, with 52 percent of work from home employees saying that implementing a hybrid workplace is ‘very important,’ and 82 percent preferring it because it allows them to save money on travel,” De Castro said.
“The safety of our employees is our top priority.” They will be pleased and delighted if you provide them with a sense of stability and security, especially given the ongoing pandemic. Your employees will demand safety and expect to see standards in place that will allow them to work efficiently while remaining safe. This is addressed by implementing a hybrid workplace, which allows individuals to work from home or in the office, whatever they desire,” she noted.
