Sarangani, ALABEL – A health official in this province said on Thursday that 200 children aged 5 to 11 years old have been vaccinated so far.

Vaccination for the specific pediatric group began Monday, according to Nurse Maria Razel Bustria, the provincial immunization coordinator, following a notice from the Department of Health – Soccsksargen (DOH-12).

“200 children in the youngest pedia category have gotten their first dose in the vaccination sites since we launched our Resbakuna Kids program in seven municipalities around the province,” she said in an interview.

The immunization programs for children, according to Bustria, had a joyful ambiance, with balloons and mascots to keep the kids entertained.

She stated that the provincial health authority plans to vaccinate 91,000 youngsters aged 5 to 11 in the province.

“DOH-12 has sent an initial 5,000 doses of reformulated Pfizer vaccines to the province for the pedia group.

She asked more parents to bring their children in for vaccinations so that they can continue physical classes and other activities as soon as possible.

“We’ll try to get more minors between the ages of 5 and 11 to get the vaccine so they can go back to school, go to malls, and be safe,” Bustria added.

After months of dealing with coronavirus disease outbreaks in 2019, the province was relieved to be downgraded to Alert Level 2 earlier this week.

The province’s new alert level, which started on Wednesday (February 16), will terminate on February 28.
