CEBU CITY, PHILIPPINES — Cebu province, comprising this capital city, has provided about 5.6 million vaccine doses since the inoculation deployment against coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) began here almost a year ago, according to the Department of Health-Central Visayas (DOH-7) on Thursday.

According to DOH-7 data, a total of 2.8 million first doses, 2.6 million second doses, and 232,358 booster shots were given out.

The number of doses delivered in Metro Cebu districts accounts for 3.9 million doses, or 70% of the total accomplishment on the island of Cebu, according to Dr. Mary Jean Loreche, DOH-7 head pathologist.

The cities of Cebu, Mandaue, Lapu-Lapu, Talisay, and Naga, as well as the towns of Liloan, Consolacion, and Cordova in the north, and Minglanilla in the south, make up Metro Cebu.

According to Loreche, the province’s northern and southern localities reported total doses administered of 938,663 and 742,127, respectively.

She stated that 72.49 percent of Metro Cebu’s 2.4 million people are eligible for Covid-19 vaccination.

Meanwhile, Loreche recommended tourism and hospitality personnel get vaccinated and boosted against Covid-19 in order to protect visitors to their enterprises.

“We truly hope that when they return to their homelands, they would carry back the good word about how beautiful (and safe) Cebu is and that they will tell their countrymen that they were not frightened to come here,” she said.
