MANILA, Philippines — A total of 455,130 doses of Pfizer coronavirus vaccine for adults procured by the government arrived Thursday night, bringing the total number of life-saving doses in the Philippines to over 223 million since February of last year.

Ma. Paz Corrales, a consultant with the National Task Force (NTF) Against Covid-19, claimed that during the third “Bayanihan, Bakunahan” national immunization program, which began on February 10, over 2.6 million vaccinations were provided, or more than half of the goal five million shots.

The immunization program has been extended from its original two-day timetable to Friday, February 18.

Corrales further stated that 263,000 doses of the reformulated Pfizer vaccine were given to children aged 5 to 11 years old. According to Corrales, about 65 percent of the target younger population (12 to 17 years old) is now fully vaccinated.

“We urge parents to have their children immunize themselves against Covid-19. This is essential as we prepare for face-to-face sessions and the economy’s reopening “Corrales expressed gratitude to the US government for assisting in the supply of immunizations.

The national government obtained the most recent Pfizer vaccination from the World Bank.

The Australian government is due to deliver 1,432,080 doses of Pfizer vaccine through Unicef on Friday night (February 18).

As of February 18, the NTF reported that a total of 132,013,140 vaccination doses had been delivered. A total of 61,626,201 people have been fully immunized.
