Violations of quarantine protocols are penalized under the law: DOH

The Department of Health (DOH) announced Thursday that violating quarantine standards specified by the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF) upon entry into the country is illegal.

The government’s coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) standards and policies prompted the agency to issue a statement in response to accusations that certain international tourists were allegedly evading quarantine requirements.

Noncompliance with these guidelines, according to the Department of Health, is a violation of Republic Act No. 11332, also known as the Mandatory Reporting of Notifiable Diseases and Health Events of Public Health Concern Act of 2018.

The agency also stated that it, in collaboration with the Bureau of Quarantine, the Department of Tourism, the Department of Interior and Local Government, the Department of Transportation, and the Philippine National Police, will guarantee that lawbreakers are dealt with appropriately.

“We advise everyone to exercise extreme caution while attending and/or organizing events, particularly when persons with recent travel or exposure history are involved,” it warned.

The DOH asked the public to report persons, establishments, or local government units breaking quarantine regulations to local authorities in order to ensure appropriate implementation and avoid future spread of Covid-19.
