MANILA, Philippines — Malacanang revealed Wednesday that former Commission on Elections (Comelec) Commissioner Antonio T. Kho Jr. has been nominated as a new associate justice of the Supreme Court.

President Rodrigo Roa Duterte signed Kho’s appointment paper on Wednesday, according to Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles, an acting presidential spokesperson.

“We wish Associate Justice Kho the best of luck on the Supreme Court, and we are convinced that he will continue to administer justice with integrity, impartiality, and fairness to every man, woman, and child,” Nograles said in a statement.

The Supreme Court’s public information officer, lawyer Brian Hosaka, also confirmed that Kho’s appointment papers were received by the High Court on Wednesday afternoon through the Office of Chief Justice, Alexander Gesmundo.

Kho, who just retired as Comelec commissioner, will take over the role left vacant by Rosmari Carandang, who stepped down in January.

Prior to joining Comelec, Kho worked as an undersecretary of the Department of Justice.
