Over 200 peacekeepers have been dispatched to Samar.
TACLOBAN CITY, Philippines – On Tuesday, the Philippine National Police dispatched 235 junior police personnel to Samar province for a peacekeeping assignment ahead of the local election season.
According to a report given by the PNP regional office here late Tuesday, the PNP-Basic Internal Security Operations Course graduates attended a send-off ceremony at their training location in Babatngon, Leyte, for a special assignment in designated regions in Samar.
“This send-off ceremony is a suitable testament to our desire for a successful national and local election campaign.” Execute your election duties and responsibilities with zeal, especially in areas where our assistance is desperately required. We have unquestionably learned from previous elections. We are better prepared now than we have ever been. In a statement, PNP Eastern Visayas Regional Director Brig. Gen. Bernard Banac remarked, “Let us execute our job well.”
The officers will be stationed in Calbayog City, Gandara, Sta. Margarita, Matuguinao, and San Jorge municipalities. Election-related violence is common in certain areas.
The 235 cops will be assigned to the Regional Special Operations Task Group (RSOTG) – Samar, which will be responsible for peacekeeping missions.
The RSOTG-Samar was revived by the PNP earlier this year in order to secure calm and orderly elections in the province this year.
The police regional office’s establishment of the regional operations task force is a preemptive move to avert election-related violence, according to Banac.
The team will concentrate on monitoring and supervision in parts of Samar in order to prevent and handle election-related incidents that may develop in the areas, as seen in previous elections, as a result of intense political rivalry between competing candidates.
Poll-related incidents are more common in Samar’s first district.
Three supporters of a mayoralty candidate were ambushed in Santa Margarita, Samar, earlier this month, while a youth council leader in Calbayog City, Samar, was fatally shot.
