For Covid-19, PH has been reclassified as ‘high risk.’

Following an uptick in cases before the end of 2021, the country is now classified as high risk for Covid-19, according to a health official.

The epidemic curve, according to Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire, shows that the current average daily cases have climbed by 570 percent this week – December 27, 2021 to January 2, 2022 – which is seven times greater than previous weeks.

“Nationally, we are now at high-risk case classification from low-risk case classification in the previous week,” Vergeire stated in a media forum, citing a “positive two-week growth rate of 222 percent” and a “moderate risk average daily attack rate of 1.07 case per 100,000 individuals.”

The Department of Health’s latest data shows that the island groups are seeing an increase in instances, while the National Capital Region (NCR) has seen a substantial spike in cases in recent weeks.

“Similarly, the NCR is classified as a high-risk case, with a high-risk one-week and two-week growth rate, as well as a moderate-risk daily average attack rate of 5.42 cases per 100,000 people,” Vergeire stated.

The region’s health-care capacity is still under 50 percent utilized, and the country’s bed capacity is under jeopardy, with total utilization at 18 percent and intensive care unit bed utilization at 22 percent.

Region 4-A (Calabarzon), Region 3, Region 9, Region 11, and Region 10 are the other five regions with positive one-week and two-week growth rates. These areas are classified as having low to moderate risk cases.

“The rest of the regions have only seen positive increases in instances in the last week. “Healthcare utilization is low risk in all regions,” Vergeire said.
