YouTube has taken down Russian state-run media channels all across the world.
YouTube announced on Friday that it is censoring channels associated with Russia-backed news organizations around the world.
Last Monday, it began censoring the YouTube channels of RT and Sputnik across Europe.
“We are now removing information concerning Russia’s invasion of Ukraine that breaches this policy,” the company said on Twitter, adding that its “Community Guidelines prohibit content that denies, minimizes, or trivializes well-documented horrific events.”
The new restriction will take effect immediately, but it will take time for YouTube’s systems to entirely disable channels.
During Russia’s conflict on Ukraine, YouTube has also banned over 1,000 channels and over 15,000 videos for breaking numerous regulations, including those on hate speech, misinformation, and graphic violence.
