DND chief praises PH Army’s contribution to peace and nation-building
MANILA – On the occasion of the Philippine Army’s (PA) 125th founding anniversary, Department of National Defense (DND) Secretary Delfin Lorenzana lauded the service’s critical role in promoting peace and nation-building.
“Renew your commitment to serving the Filipino people with zeal and dedication. Continue to develop your capabilities and gain knowledge from your experiences. Cultivate a harmonious working relationship with our stakeholders because convergence with them is critical to retaining the Filipino people’s trust,” Lorenzana said Tuesday afternoon during his speech at the PA headquarters.
He added that the PA also developed a reputation for being a dependable ally of the Filipino people during times of natural disasters and national emergencies.
“Truly, the Army is more than a military organization. It has established itself as a dependable and responsive partner of the Filipino people during times of natural disasters and national emergencies,” he said.
Lorenzana presented the command plaque and “Kapayapaan Para Sa Lahat” statuettes to stakeholders who made significant contributions to the Army’s transformation journey during the celebration, assisted by PA commander Lt. Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr.
Paolo Gerero, a Camarines Norte-based artist, handcrafted the statuettes.
Army divisions, brigades, battalions, and officers, as well as enlisted personnel and civilian human resource personnel, were also recognized for their exemplary and dedicated service.
“On behalf of the Philippine Army’s over 100,000 officers, enlisted personnel, and civilian human resource, I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to all Filipinos for their faith and trust in your Philippine Army. Please understand that you – our kababayans – are our first priority. We will always work diligently and honestly to live up to your expectations,” Brawner stated.
Brawner stated on March 21 in a report on his first 100 days as PA chief that the PA is on track to achieve its goal of becoming a world-class military force by 2028.
“The Army Transformation Roadmap serves as our guide, as it embodies the principles of good governance and excellence. By 2028, I am confident that we will have developed into a world-class Army worthy of national pride,” he stated in his report.
Brawner also discussed the Army’s modernization program, which is aimed at enhancing the service’s territorial defense capabilities.
He emphasized the establishment of a new infantry rocket system, short-range air defense battalions, and a ground-based air defense battery.
“We will also activate the 1st Electronic Warfare Company to provide cyber defense capabilities to the command, as well as the mechanized-centric Brigade Combat Team to further strengthen the Army’s combined arms capability,” Brawner said.
