In BARMM, the first several days of the local campaign period were quiet.

CITY OF COTABATO – Since the commencement of the local campaign period, no election-related violence has been reported in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), according to a top police officer.

“No election-related violence has been reported so far, according to reports from the Cotabato City Police Office and Police Provincial Offices in Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao, Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi. Brig. Gen. Arthur Cabalona, director of the BARMM Police Regional Office (PRO), said in a statement that the region is “usually quiet.”

Cabalona continued, “The studies also confirmed that minimum public health standards were observed, particularly the usage of face masks.”

Cabalona emphasized that PRO-BARMM personnel will be constantly deployed and maintain full alert status as the campaign in the local scene began its fourth day.

“During the local candidates’ campaign activities, the conduct of Commission on Elections (Comelec) checkpoints, police patrol, police visibility, and other security measures were heightened and strictly executed,” the police official assured.

Meanwhile, Cabalona urged all police officers to remain apolitical and non-partisan, stating that their primary focus should be on stepped-up law enforcement operations to ensure a peaceful election.

The provinces of Maguindanao, Lanao del Sur, Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi, as well as the cities of Cotabato, Marawi, and Lamitan, and the 63 villages in six North Cotabato towns, make up BARMM.
