MANILA, Philippines — The intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) impacting Mindanao and the shear line affecting extreme northern Luzon may bring rain showers to areas of the country on Monday, according to the meteorological bureau.

Around 2 a.m. Monday, a low pressure area (LPA) reached the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR). It is imbedded along the ITCZ and was last monitored 970 kilometers east of Guiuan, Eastern Samar.

The shear line will bring scattered rain showers and thunderstorms to Cagayan Valley, Apayao, and Ilocos Norte.

Due to the ITCZ, the same weather will be encountered in Caraga, Northern Mindanao, Eastern and Central Visayas.

“Within two to three days, the LPA is projected to reach near the Visayas and Mindanao, affecting these areas,” said Aldczar Aurelio of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

The LPA, according to Aurelio, has a minimal possibility of becoming a tropical cyclone.

Over the rest of the country, sunny weather will dominate with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms brought on by easterlies.

Over the whole archipelago, moderate to severe winds and moderate to rough waves will persist.

The northern and eastern seaboards of northern Luzon, as well as the western shoreline of northern Luzon, are expected to experience strong to gale-force winds.

Fishing boats and other small sea vessels have been cautioned not to enter the water, while larger sea vessels have been warned of strong waves.
