MANILA – Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte is asking all city elders to take advantage of the relaunched Senior Citizens Maintenance Medicine Program, which is governed by City Ordinance 2892-2019.

Belmonte said in a statement released on Wednesday that the municipal administration will give free maintenance drugs on the first Tuesday of each month, which is marked as Senior Citizen’s Day in the city.

The municipal administration gave out free maintenance drugs and vitamins to 1,343 senior citizens who came to the Toro Hills Health Center in Barangay Bahay Toro to take advantage of the program on Tuesday.

Losartan and Amlodipine for hypertension, Metformin for diabetes, and Simvastatin for those with high cholesterol were among the maintenance drugs distributed.

The elders were examined by doctors on the spot before being given the medications.

They were provided medical prescriptions and free drugs after registering for the scheme.

The free maintenance drugs are now accessible in all 65 of the city’s health clinics, and registered seniors can claim them every first Tuesday of the month.

Senior citizens must register at a health facility near them, which can be found at https://quezoncity.gov.ph/covid-19-watch/hospitals-and-health-centers-directory/.

When visiting the health centers, they must also carry their senior citizen IDs and medical prescriptions.
