A group of Ilocanos has petitioned the Comelec to reopen the Marcos DQ case.

MANILA, Philippines — A group has petitioned the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to move quickly in the matter of presidential nominee Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. being disqualified.

The Pudno Nga Ilokano (Real Ilocanos), led by Margarita Salandanan, submitted an extremely urgent second request to resolve on April 7 and made it public on Friday, pleading with the poll body’s Second Division to determine the matter “without undue delay.”

“Petitioners and the country rely on the Honorable Commission to determine on the instant issue expeditiously and conscientiously, without fear or favor, due to the looming grave and irreparable harm to the Philippine electoral process that such a delay would create.” “This inordinate delay in deciding the instant issue, despite the Honorable Commission’s repeated stress on its transcendental importance, calls into question and speculation the Honorable Commission’s integrity and competency to carry out its Constitutional mandate,” it stated.

The petition claims that the case was submitted for settlement two months ago but that the poll body has yet to make a decision.

“Despite the serious and adverse consequences that the Honorable Commission’s late resolution of the issues in the instant Petition may have on the country’s future,” it added, “Petitioners are despondent and downhearted that the Honorable Commission does not comply with its own rule that petitions for disqualification shall be decided summarily.”

The petitioners submitted a move resolve for the case to be resolved immediately last month, which was filed on Dec. 7, 2021.

In its petition, the organization requested that the former senator be disqualified owing to his conviction in a tax case.
