MANILA, Philippines – Secretary of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Eduardo Ano has directed the Philippine National Police (PNP) to work with officials from the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) in implementing the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) guidelines that only vaccinated individuals be allowed to attend indoor religious services.

“So atin ang ipatutupad sa BARMM regions na ‘yung mga magsasamba po sa mga mosque dapat ay bakunado,” Ano said during the Talk to the People session on Monday night.

“Para po protektado [against Covid-19] talaga ‘yung mga kapatid nating Muslim na sumasamba sa mosque, mga bakunado lang po’yung papapasukin,” he remarked.

Earlier, the government announced that special vaccination days would be held in BARMM areas to address the region’s low immunization rate.

“Mababa pa yung vaccination rate ng BARMM, Regions 12 [Soccsksargen], 7 [Central Visayas], medyo mababa pa yung immunization rate diyan.” So talagang sabay ito yung ginagawa natin, both monitoring election campaign breaches and health procedures (the vaccination rate is low, especially in the BARMM’s Regions 12, 7, where the vaccination rate is still very low). So this is actually what we’re doing (both monitoring election campaign breaches and health protocols),” Ano said during a joint press conference held by the DILG, the Commission on Elections (Comelec), and the Philippine National Police (PNP) in Camp Crame on April 7.

He explained that this is why they have been closely monitoring campaign sorties in the BARMM, since this could result in an increase in instances.

The scheduled special vaccination days for BARMM, according to DILG spokesperson Undersecretary Jonathan Malaya, have already been given the go light by the National Task Force (NTF) against Covid-19 implementer Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr.

“BARMM is a unique area in which we are concentrating our efforts. Only 25% of the population is fully vaccinated, which poses a significant difficulty. As a result, special immunization days will be held in BARMM. Every province in the area would be the subject of intensive government engagement through the NTF to guarantee that we, like the rest of the country, meet our target,” added Malaya, who was also present at the briefing.

In the NCR, there is no granular lockdown.

Meanwhile, Ano highlighted that the country’s coronavirus disease-2019 (Covid-19) situation is improving, and that there are no granular lockdown areas in the National Capital Region for the first time (NCR).

Three granular lockdown areas are being enforced in the Cordillera Administrative Region’s (CAR) three towns and three barangays, according to him.

If the current trend continues, Ano believes the public’s protection against the virus will be secured, but he emphasizes the need for more people to be inoculated, particularly in areas where vaccination rates are low.
