MANILA, Philippines — The Philippines and Germany are discussing two new labor accords that will open doors for Filipino workers, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) stated on Monday.

Secretary Silvestre Bello III said in a statement that the two countries are presently exploring the potential of more Filipino healthcare experts being recruited as well as the deployment of 31 other talents and professions.

Hotel service, electrical engineering and mechanics, sanitation, heating, air conditioning, and childcare are the designated pilot sectors.

He believes that the labor agreements will be finished soon.

“We are hoping that the two agreements will be implemented during President Duterte’s term and will represent a key turning point in Philippine-German bilateral relations,” Bello added.

Under the Triple Win Program, Filipino nurses are now sent to Germany.

“Since 2013, we’ve deployed roughly 1,811 nurses under the Program,” Bello stated during the recent turnover of the German-funded Geriatric Skills Laboratory at Baliuag University in Bulacan.

The laboratory is funded by the Bertelsmann Stiftung Foundation, which works with Philippine and German organizations as part of the Triple Win Program-Global Skills Partnership program.

The Global Skills Partnership initiative, which is an extension of the Triple Win Program, gives access to German training via face-to-face, e-learning, and other alternative modalities.

Given Germany’s aging population, geriatric care has been regarded as one of the most important skills for nurses in the European country.
