BOC’s fuel branding scheme generates P374-B in revenue.

MANILA, Philippines — The Bureau of Customs (BOC) announced on Monday that under the fuel marking program, it had received a total of PHP374.13 in import tariffs and other taxes from compliant oil businesses.

According to the Bureau, the total marked gasoline, diesel, and kerosene reached 39.316 billion liters from September 2019 to March 2022.

Diesel accounts for 65.51 percent of the tax-paid volume, followed by gasoline at 38.97 percent and kerosene at 0.52 percent, according to the report.

Luzon had the most markings (73.66 percent), followed by Mindanao (20.9 percent) and Visayas (5.44 percent).

Since the initiative began in September 2019, the BOC has marked 28 oil companies, according to the BOC.

It also claimed to have confiscated a total of 93,043.80 liters of diesel, 18,839.00 liters of kerosene, and two tank trucks carrying unregistered petroleum worth PHP13,357,405.

The seizure was carried out in collaboration with the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR).

The BOC also suggested that criminal charges be filed against the 12 retail stations and two private companies using unlabeled fuels.

The BOC has marked 4.724 billion liters of petroleum products in the first quarter of 2022, amounting to PHP60.15 billion in charges and taxes.

The fuel marking initiative intends to increase income while also reducing fuel smuggling and leveling the playing field in the Philippine oil industry.
