NegOcc will ramp up its post-election Covid-19 vaccination campaign.
BACOLOD CITY, Philippines – As the May 9 elections draw to a close, the province administration of Negros Occidental will step up its coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) immunization efforts.
Dr. Claudelia Josefa Pabillo, head of the Provincial Health Office’s cold storage facility, stated on Tuesday that the province still has enough immunizations, but that there is still apprehension among some groups, particularly the elderly.
According to data, hardly more than half of the province’s elderly population is covered.
Local government units (LGUs) will be reminded to focus on their Covid-19 immunization program, according to Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson.
“We’ll start doing that again, especially in LGUs where performance is bad,” he said.
“Booster injections are already being recommended. It’s not over yet; we still have a lot more vaccines to do. I’m hoping things will get better. Anyway, campaign season is gone, election season is over,” Lacson remarked.
According to Provincial Administrator Rayfrando Diaz II, Negros Occidental cannot yet be deescalated to Alert Level 1, the lowest category in the country’s Covid-19 alert level system, because of insufficient vaccination coverage among the Negrense elderly.
The Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases has placed seven LGUs in Negros Occidental on Alert Level 1 until May 31, while the remainder of the province is currently on Alert Level 2.
Lacson stated, “We will endeavor to raise the number of LGUs under Alert Level 1.”
