No objection to the canvassing of votes in Congress: Camp Robredo
MANILA – On Tuesday, the campaign of presidential candidate Vice President Leni Robredo announced they will not object to all certificates of canvass (COCs) being included in the tallying of votes for president in May 9 elections.
Robredo’s election lawyer, Atty. Romulo Macalintal, spoke out during the Congress’ canvassing of votes for the presidential and vice-presidential contests, reiterating the vice president’s previous statement to “respect the judgment of the majority.”
“In a public statement, Vice President Leni Robredo urged her followers to accept the majority’s decision. “She remarked that while there are still ballots that haven’t been counted or questions about the election that haven’t been answered, the voice of the people is becoming clearer and clearer,” Macalintal added.
He warned Congress, which had convened as the National Board of Canvassers, that the Robredo campaign would likewise skip the sessions.
“And in light of that continued manifestation, your honors, may we humbly forego our appearance before this joint committee in order to expedite its procedures,” he added.
The spokeswoman for probable president Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., Atty. Vic Rodriguez congratulated Robredo for her patriotism in accepting the integrity of the presidential election results.
“We join my outstanding colleague and one of the election law practitioners, Atty. Romulo “Romymac” Macalintal, in his demonstration. We also want to acknowledge and appreciate Vice President Leni Robredo for her patriotism in publicly accepting the integrity and outcome of the recently concluded general elections “Rodriguez declared.
Marcos won by a landslide with more than 31 million votes, while Robredo received 14.81 million votes, according to an unofficial calculation by the Commission on Elections.
Positive changes are taking place.
On Tuesday, Malacanang praised Robredo’s campaign for speeding up the canvassing of votes.
In a press statement, acting presidential spokesperson and Communications Secretary Martin Andanar said, “The decision of Vice President Ma. Leonor ‘Leni’ Robredo’s campaign to hasten the canvassing of ballots for President is a welcome development.”
He reaffirmed his plea for all political contestants to respect election results.
“As we have stated, let us respect the election results and give the winning candidates the opportunity to carry out their campaign platforms,” he continued.
Duterte stated in a public address on May 12 that he believes there was no cheating or other vote anomalies in the recent elections.
He requested the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to look into claims of election fraud, particularly the 2,000 vote-counting machines (VCMs) that failed.
