BAI executive: NegOr covered by DA policy vs. poultry ship-out
DUMAGUETE- The Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) in Negros Oriental announced Tuesday that poultry raisers cannot ship live or ready-to-lay chicks without a lab to test for bird flu.
Dr. Alfonso Tundag, BAI-Negros Oriental quarantine officer, stated even if the province is clean of avian influenza, the DA policy banning the movement of chickens and other poultry products still applies.
“The ban, enacted early this month, persists until June 11 countrywide, therefore poultry raisers here must sell their birds solely in the local market because we don’t have a lab,” Tundag stated in mixed English and Cebuano.
The province won’t admit chickens and other poultry animals and products from other places unless they’ve passed scientific tests.
Tundag said the restriction on chickens and other fowl from bird flu-affected areas remains in Negros Oriental.
Pampanga, Bulacan, Camarines Sur, Sultan Kudarat, and Davao have reported avian flu outbreaks.
