MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) issued a warning to the public on Wednesday about people impersonating its agents and demanding money to process phony parcels from overseas.

The PPA warned in a public advisory that the scam involves people posing as PPA employees who present their victims with a bogus sales invoice to verify they got a parcel from overseas.

“Hihingi ng malaking halaga ang mga ito para diumano punan ang mga serbisyo at ekwipo na ginamit sa pantalan kasama na ang duties and taxes ng bagahe upang mailabas na sa pantalan at madala sa kanilang mga tahanan,” it said.

The PPA does not work with package handlers or logistics organizations that handle packages that pass via PPA ports, according to the statement.

“Ugaliing maging mapanuri. Maging maingat laban sa ganitong klase ng pananamantala (Always be critical. Be vigilant against these kinds of scams),” it said.

It asked the public to contact it via the PPA’s Facebook page portsauthorityph and Twitter account @phports with any questions or concerns.
