The capacity of a kinetic energy storage company in PH has been increased.
MANILA, Philippines โ Amber Kinetics will finish its second kinetic energy storage system (KESS) manufacturing plant here by the end of the year, more than doubling its production capacity.
Amber Kinetics Philippines director of business development Roberto Kanapi claimed the new manufacturing line for its flywheel technology will expand the company’s capacity to 1,800 to 2,000 KESS yearly at a media briefing on Wednesday.
The company’s plant in the First Philippine Industrial Park in Sto. Tomas, Batangas, presently produces 600 to 700 flywheel energy storage units each year.
According to Kanapi, the new line will be able to meet Australia’s high demand as well as the Philippines’ rising demand due to the country’s growing renewable energy projects.
“We’ve narrowed down which nations we’d like to enter, and Australia is a significant market for energy storage.” We were also utterly taken aback by the market’s potential. “At this stage, the Philippines and Australia are the two key markets for the Philippine facility,” he explained.
Because the Philippines aims to expand the amount of renewable energy in its energy mix to 35 percent by 2030 and 50 percent by 2040, the country is becoming a prospective market for energy storage systems.
A mechanical battery that stores energy in the form of kinetic energy is a flywheel technology energy storage system.
Flywheel technology, unlike other energy storage devices, does not degrade capacity and does not emit toxic pollutants. It also has a 30-year life expectancy.
Amber Kinetics and Shell will collaborate to power some of Shell’s petrol stations with solar energy and flywheel technology for energy storage, according to Kanapi.
Amber Kinetics has invested between USD150 million and USD160 million since 2018, he noted.
