Before the PRRD’s tenure concludes, the Philippines will have fully vaccinated 70 million Filipinos.

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine government met its goal of fully vaccinating 70 million Filipinos against Covid-19 within 15 months after launching the National Vaccination Program.

According to the National Vaccination Operations Center’s most recent report, a total of 70,005,247 people, or 77.78 percent of the target population, had finished their primary series as of June 17.

The first booster shot was given to 14,704,514 people, while the second booster shot was given to 648,555 people.

Only the elderly, medical front-line workers and immunocompromised people (those who have cancer, HIV/AIDS, are on immunosuppressants, or are organ transplant recipients) are eligible for the second dose at this time.

A total of 74,813,407 people have gotten at least one of the 153,013,072 doses that were given out.

Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr., the chief implementer of the National Task Force Against Covid-19, said the achievement demonstrates the administration’s dedication to protecting as many Filipinos as possible from the deadly effects of Covid-19.

“As promised, we achieved our goal of 70 million fully immunized people. “The NTF expresses its gratitude to our health-care staff, volunteers, and everyone else who helped make the immunization campaign a success,” Galvez said in a statement released on Saturday.

“We’re giving this to the next administration as a parting present.” “We hope that our new leaders will also prioritize our vaccination program and continue to strengthen our people’s immunity,” he added.

Galvez is optimistic that the high vaccination rate, together with ongoing adherence to health regulations, will prevent another outbreak.

“We’ve had a lot of superspreader events in the last few months, including the national elections, but thanks to our high vaccination rate, we’ve been able to keep our new Covid-19 cases low,” he said, emphasizing the importance of continued face mask use, physical separation, and frequent hand washing.

The government’s pediatric immunization program is also gaining traction, with 3,217,367 children aged 5 to 11 years old having been fully immunized.

9,487,745 children aged 12 to 17 have now gotten their complete doses.

Galvez urged the public to get booster shots as soon as they are eligible to augment the protection afforded by the original dosages, which wear off over time.

Immunocompromised adults must wait three months after their first booster injection, whereas frontline health care professionals and older residents can get their second booster shot four months after their first booster shot.
