DPWH will begin doing maintenance tasks at public schools
In support of the Oplan Balik Eskwela (OBE) of the Department of Education, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will begin maintenance work in public elementary and high schools nationwide (DepEd).
Before the start of face-to-face lessons this year, DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan directed regional offices and district engineering offices to execute repair activities and programs in government schools.
According to a statement released by Bonoan on Friday, “as a contribution to DepEd’s annual OBE Program, our implementing offices were once again directed to undertake measures that would help in ensuring a smooth and orderly beginning of schools.”
In accordance with the program, the DPWH coordinates with the respective school heads to carry out various maintenance tasks in public schools each year.
The painting or repainting of pedestrian lanes in front of schools, the unclogging of drainage systems, the cleaning of manholes close to schools, and the repair of worn-out chairs, classroom ceilings, restrooms, and entrance gates are all examples of activities.
Additionally, for this year, DPWH offices were required to set up outreach initiatives in at least two outlying schools under their control.
The outreach includes planting trees inside of schools, as well as donation drives for things like meal packs, books, facemasks, and school supplies.
The start of the academic year 2022โ2023 is set for August 22. Full-time faceโtoโface classes will begin on November 2.
