DepEd reports a 75 percent enrollment rate in Eastern Visayas.
The Department of Education (DepEd) reported on Wednesday that as of August 16, six days prior to the start of classes, at least 979,465 elementary and high school students in Eastern Visayas had registered for the new school year.
Jazmin Calzita, information officer for DepEd 8 (Eastern Visayas), said in a phone interview that the number represents 75.24 percent of the actual enrollment of 1,301,782 students from kindergarten to senior high school for the Academic Year 2021-2022.
Calzita stated in an interview, “We expect to register all school-aged children within the next few days, as many parents and students register their children at the last minute.”
Since July 25, the education department has been conducting physical enrollment, with remote enrollment options available.
Enrollment in person is permitted under minimum health and safety standards, including the use of face masks, a temperature check upon entry, the availability of rubbing alcohol, and physical separation to prevent the spread of the virus.
Schools can also facilitate remote enrollment by requiring parents, legal guardians, or students to fill out digital forms and submit them via the school’s official email address or any of the provided messaging platforms.
Calzita stated that they are optimistic about locating the remaining 25% of unenrolled children using strategies such as home visits, group discussions, and coordination with local officials.
Brigada Eskwela was conducted by the DepEd and centered on an information campaign, preparations, and the strengthening of partnerships that complement the department’s efforts to ensure quality basic education.
For the upcoming school year, which begins on August 22, the DepEd has prescribed only face-to-face classes, blended learning, and total distance learning until October 31.
On November 2, all public and private schools will be required to implement five days of face-to-face instruction.
No school will be permitted to implement pure distance learning or blended learning, with the exception of those implementing alternative delivery modes as specified in a 2019 department order.
