For individuals wishing to run in the upcoming Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE), the Certificate of Candidacy (COC) filing period has been set for October 6 through October 13, 2022, according to the Commission on Elections (Comelec).

Because October 9 falls on a Sunday, which is not included in the activity, the filing period will only last six days according to its Calendar of Activities.

Candidates in the village and youth polls can submit their certificates of candidacy (OCs) at the OEO in their city or municipality.

Sec. 7 of Republic Act 6679 relates Sec. 29 of RA 6646 to the COC filing period start date.

According to Section 7, a candidate must submit a sworn certificate of candidacy to the election registrar of the city or municipality in question at least 10 days prior to the election day in order to be qualified for any barangay seat.

The Commission on Elections shall establish the format and contents of the certificate of candidacy. The 10 days leading up to the election will be designated as the campaign period.

According to Section 29, “the Commission shall determine additional periods and dates in order to assure achievement of the activities so voters should not be deprived of their right to franchise” if it becomes unreasonable to follow the times and dates set forth by law for some pre-election acts.

The voting period for the elections on December 5 will run from October 6 to December 12, 2022.

Nov. 25, 2022 marks the start of the campaign, which lasts until Dec. 3, 2022.

Election day voting hours are from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
