6K DILG employees receive the Covid vaccine through “PinasLakas.”

On Saturday, the Department of the Interior and Local Government’s (DILG) Central and Regional Offices held a simultaneous “Bakunahang Bayan: PinasLakas Special Vaccination Day,” where 6,140 personnel received Covid-19 booster doses.

The simultaneous booster immunization inoculated 1,026 people from the Central Office and 5,114 from the Regional Offices of DILG, according to DILG Secretary Benjamin “Benhur” Abalos Jr., who joined department employees in Koronadal, South Cotabato, for the Bakunahan activity.

He said this was an obvious illustration of the department’s, the national government’s, and numerous stakeholders’ shared commitment to putting an end to the Covid-19 outbreak by fortifying the population’s line of defense against the virus through booster vaccinations.

“These department-wide booster immunization programs are a little way for the DILG to demonstrate its complete support for the government’s ‘Bakunahang Bayan: PinasLakas Special Vaccination Days’ campaign. The DILG has been notified of the Pangulo’s campaign. We are one with the President is his campaign’s slogan, which is not currently available to most local government units (LGUs). On Saturday, Abalos stated, “We will push this not only in our LGUs but even within our department.

The “PinasLakas” campaign is a Department of Health (DOH) project that aims to increase the Covid-19 booster immunization rate throughout the nation by making vaccines available to people in their places of employment, transit hubs, and drugstores, among other locations.

According to Abalos, the central and regional offices of the DILG hosted the immunization program for its employees, providing the convenience and availability of vaccines and booster doses for the staff.

“Ating mga kawani’s lumayo sa gobyerno hindi na kailangan pang. Our personnel is the DILG itself. Thus, they are no longer required to leave the government to complete tasks or provide booster shots. They won’t have any trouble finishing their vaccinations and getting a booster dose because the DILG already has the vaccine),” he stated.

Abalos also urged the local government units (LGUs) to step up their booster vaccination campaigns to meet the government’s vaccination targets of 90% of senior citizens receiving the primary series and 50% of the general population receiving the first booster dose within the first 100 days of administration.

Abalos encouraged all local chief executives to utilize their resources and run a more effective Covid-19 vaccination program until October 8 in a DILG memo.

According to the memorandum, local government units (LGUs) are required to set up vaccination sites near shopping centers, plazas, markets, houses of worship, basketball courts, and other covered courts; mobilize and equip their OSCA to conduct a senior citizen vaccination drive; mobilize barangay officials to compile a master list of residents who have not received the recommended vaccinations, and coordinate with the provincial offices and community service centers of the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP).

Additionally, LGUs are urged to intensify local lobbying and demand creation through a campaign for information, education, and communication, among other methods.

Abalos also gave the Philippine National Police (PNP) instructions to work with the local government units (LGUs), the Department of Health Center for Health Development, and other significant partners in the conduct of “PinasLakas”

According to him, top-performing LGUs in their PinasLakas vaccination efforts will receive awards on October 9.

The program’s implementation followed President Ferdinand “BongBong” Marcos Jr.’s order to increase the country’s booster immunization rate.

The President instructed the DOH and DILG to launch a new booster shot rollout in his first State of the Nation Address.

Approximately 73 million people had finished their primary vaccination series as of September 27, 2022, while 19.3 million had received their booster shots.

With 5,089,242, the National Capital Region has the most people who have received booster shots, followed by Calabarzon (3,098,816) and Central Luzon (2,635,869).
