Comelec will inactivate nearly 670K overseas voters.

According to the Commission on Elections (Comelec), over 669,000 registered voters overseas will have their voting rights terminated since they chose not to participate in the two electoral processes.

According to information made public by the polling organization’s Office for Overseas Voting (OFOV), 669,527 registered voters will likely have their voting rights suspended for failing to participate in the 2019 and 2022 elections.

The biggest Filipinos were found in the Middle East and Africa, with 377,139, followed by Asia and the Pacific, with 129,535.

Additionally, 42,148 voters in Europe and 120,705 voters from North and Latin America will have their voting rights suspended.

According to the Overseas Voting Act of 2013, anyone whose voting records indicate they did not cast a ballot in two consecutive national elections may have their registration records deactivated.

The Resident Election Registration Board (RERB) is scheduled to meet via Zoom at 3 p.m. on Wednesday to discuss the deactivation of these voters’ registration data, according to the Comelec-OFOV.

A notification published on its website stated that “the list of overseas voters, whose registration records are slated for deactivation, are subject to the special RERB hearing.”

According to the Comelec, any interested person who wants to object to the abovementioned list may do so in writing to the RERB of the OFOV.

Only national candidates, such as the president, vice president, senators, and party-list group, are chosen by foreign voters during elections.

In the Philippines, voting occurs one month in advance.
