The Swiss Embassy opens a travel and tourist “antenna” in Manila

On Monday, the Swiss Embassy in the Philippines unveiled a travel initiative aimed at fostering closer links between the two countries in the areas of innovation and sustainability.

Simon Bosshart, head of Switzerland Tourism Markets East, stated that Manila is one of the four locations worldwide where they had planned to construct “an antenna” by the end of 2023 in an interview with the Philippine News Agency (PNA).

Riyadh (early 2023), Tel Aviv (mid-2023), and Mexico are the other three cities (end of 2023).

“We really attempt to go over all cities internationally to look at things like the number of the middle class to upper class, like expenditure on travel, like willingness to go overseas, and so on,” he added. “We try to acquire some economic data, microeconomic data of all the locations where we went, truly.

According to Simon, the list of these 901 urban regions was whittled down to 160 nations having populations that could travel to Switzerland.

He claimed that the total number of nations was reduced to 140 using the “economic power of Zurich” as a standard.

“On top of this list are New York, Shanghai, Moscow, Tokyo, and so on; therefore, we are already present in these locations. We’ve opted not to create additional offices in nations where we currently have a presence, he said.

Manila was actually at the top of the list of 140 countries, ranking first among the cities that we had not yet visited, he said.

According to Alain Gaschen, the Swiss ambassador to the Philippines, “development and future investments from both sides should be expected” as a result of the increase in travel between the two nations.

He stated, “We have a wide range of industries where we think there is a potential for growth, and this basically includes the health, pharmaceutical, transportation, railway, and many other industries.”

Gaschen responded that the winter season from November to January would be ideal for Filipino visitors to Switzerland, particularly if skiing is one of their vacation priorities.

He explained: “We come here because it’s warm, while Filipinos travel to Switzerland because it’s cold, because they prefer the cold.” “So, I’d say during Christmas, when the decorations are tastefully placed and we have markets in various locations.”

Although a visa is required for travel to Switzerland, according to Gaschen, there are no quarantine, Covid-19 testing, or other limitations.

We don’t actually have quarantine, and while the testing might be up to the airlines, it’s simple. Simply wear the mask while flying, he advised.

The Swiss Embassy in the Philippines is hosting a three-day exhibition named “Building the Future Together – A Swiss Innovation Exhibit” from October 24 to 26 at the Grand Hyatt Manila, Bonifacio Global City, to commemorate its 65 years of diplomatic relations.

The exhibition aims to highlight Switzerland’s initiatives in the areas of innovation and sustainability in order to explore how the Philippines and Switzerland might continue to co-create the future.
