The government of Quezon City is implementing a number of active measures to help commuters and students who might be impacted by the planned transportation strike scheduled to begin on Monday.

“Even if certain groups have already stated that they would not participate in the strike, we in the municipal government chose to still prepare to help our commuters,” Belmonte said in a news statement on Friday.

According to Belmonte, the municipal administration will put its bus service units on alert for potential deployment to locations where a significant number of commuters might become stranded due to the week-long transportation strike.

“I’ve told the TTMD (Traffic and Transport Management Department) to get our buses ready in case they need to be deployed to aid commuters. “Our Q City buses will assist lessen the impact of the transport strike,” she stated.

Cubao, Commonwealth Avenue, Welcome (Mabuhay) Rotonda, Novaliches Bayan, Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), East Avenue, Quezon Memorial Circle (QMC), and Fairview Area are a few of the locations where commuters typically congregate to wait for public utility vehicles.

The TTMD and the Department of Public Order and Safety will also keep an eye on areas where a large number of travelers may congregate (DPOS).

Belmonte has also instructed all villages to use their barangay vehicles to provide free transportation in their respective jurisdictions when necessary. This directive was issued through the Barangay and Community Relations Department (BCRD).

She has also urged companies to support work-from-home policies for their employees and ordered the Quezon City Schools Division Office to conduct and deploy asynchronous or online lessons throughout the week.

Given the tablets that the local government has provided to pupils in public schools, this is feasible. According to their discretion, private schools may also offer online courses, she noted.

Belmonte stated that the cities’ protest places for drivers and operators would also be watched.

To maintain order in the towns and ensure the safety of the riding public, especially PUV drivers who choose not to join in the strike, the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) stated that they would also deploy police in key areas.

Buses in Manila are free.

Also, starting on Monday, the City of Manila will provide commuters with free rides in reaction to the planned transport strike.

Over the course of the transit strike, a number of cars would be deployed, according to a statement from Mayor Maria Sheilah “Honey” Lacuna-Pangan.

The Manila local government unit (LGU) will deploy 10 buses, 17 pick-ups, 3 trucks, 2 transporters, and 1 command unit at various locations starting at 5 a.m. as part of Oplan: Libreng Sakay. until 10 am and 4 pm. to 10 p.m.

The following routes will be traveled by vehicles:

Quezon Boulevard to Vito Cruz Taft Avenue; Espana Boulevard to Welcome Rotonda;

R on Abad Santos Avenue. Avenue Papa Rizal and vice versa;

R on UN Taft Avenue. Avenue Papa Rizal and vice versa;

from Recto Avenue to SM Sta Mesa and back;

Taft Avenue to P. Ocampo St. and the opposite;

from Divisoria to Monumento Rizal Avenue and vice versa;

Divisoria to Buendia Taft Ave and vice versa;

Monumento Rizal Avenue to Buendia Taft Avenue and vice versa;

Welcoming Rotonda to Buendia Taft Ave and vice versa.

E-trikes will also be offered for free transportation on the city’s side streets.

The deployment of these vehicles will be personally supervised and observed by Lacuna on Monday morning, beginning at the Kartilya ng Katipunan.

The Manila Police District (MPD), Manila Traffic and Parking Bureau (MTPB), and the Manila Disaster Risk Reduction & Management Office are all involved in the initiative (MDRRMO).

Despite the postponement of the suggested date for their consolidation, a number of transport organizations indicated they are continuing with their planned week-long transport strike in protest of the national government’s PUV Modernization Program.

The Land Transportation and Franchising Regulatory Commission on Wednesday extended the deadline for PUV operators to organize into cooperatives from June 30, 2023, to December 31, 2023.

The jeepney modernization plan has the support of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., however, he has previously stated that further research is needed into the initiative, especially the timeline for its execution.
