An important military official emphasized the significance of cyber operations as a “collective means” to protect the country.

Air Force Lt. Gen. Arthur Cordura, vice chief of staff of the AFP, said that “cyber operation is part of our national and collective defense means” on Monday at the fifth-anniversary celebration of the AFP Cyber Group (AFPCyG) in Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City.

He also reaffirmed Gilberto Teodoro Jr., the defense secretary’s directive to acknowledge the significance of cyber capabilities as a command and lead instrument.

“Those [are] capabilities that provide situational awareness and actionable intelligence for military and decision-makers to guide and execute their command and control directives,” he continued.

Additionally, according to Cordura, the military’s C4ISTAR systems are built around cyber operations.

“Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance, Targeting, Acquisition and Reconnaissance” is called C4ISTAR.

“It changes the game. The use of cyber profoundly alters the essence of battle, causing an inevitable paradigm shift in how we live in a world that alternates between peace, conflict, crisis, and war, he continued.

In addition, Cordura praised the AFPCyG, led by Army Col. Walter Icaro, for their steadfast dedication to cyberspace operations.

The AFPCyG also reaffirmed its dedication to developing strong cyberspace capabilities and safeguarding cyberspace as one of the AFP’s domains.
