The number of new infections has risen to 33K, with another 3K on the way. Covid-19

The number of new coronavirus infections in the country has risen to 33,169, the most since the pandemic began in March 2020, according to the Department of Health (DOH).

According to the current Covid-19 update, this brings the total active case count to 157,526, out of a total of 2,998,530 infections since the pandemic began.

The number of new cases on Monday topped Sunday’s total of 28,707.

A total of 3,725 infections were recovered, accounting for 93 percent of all confirmed cases.

There are 147,912 light cases, 2,858 moderate cases, 4,994 asymptomatic patients, 1,461 severe cases, and 301 critical cases among the active cases.

“Of the 33,169 instances recorded today, 32,972 (99 percent) happened in the last 14 days – December 28, 2021, to January 10, 2022,” according to the DOH.

The National Capital Region (NCR) had 18,535 new infections in the last two weeks, accounting for 56 percent of all new infections; Calabarzon had 7,443 new infections, accounting for 23 percent; and Central Luzon had 3,403 new infections, accounting for 10 percent.

With 145 new deaths, the death toll has risen to 52,293 people, accounting for 1.76 percent of all cases.

“Of the 145 deaths, 3 occurred in November 2021 (2%), 18 in October 2021 (12%), 52 in September 2021 (36%), 22 in August 2021 (15%), 24 in July 2021 (17%), 13 in June 2021 (9%), 5 in May 2021 (3%), 1 in March 2021 (1%), 1 in February 2021 (1%), and 6 in January 2021.” (4 percent). Due to late transmission of death information to COVIDKaya, deaths were reported from and Region 11 (145 or 100 percent), according to the DOH.

COVIDKaya is a digital tool that allows healthcare professionals to collect and share information regarding Covid-19 cases.

According to the January 8 statistics, Covid-19 was found in 46 percent of the 73,234 people examined.

“A total of 86 duplicate cases were eliminated from the total case count, with 73 being recoveries and two being fatalities,” according to the DOH.

Meanwhile, after validation, 124 cases formerly categorized as recoveries were reclassified as fatalities.

On January 8, all laboratories were operational, but ten of them were unable to submit data to the Covid-19 Document Repository System.

Based on statistics from the previous 14 days, the 14 laboratories are responsible for 6.2 percent of samples examined and 6.3 percent of positive persons, according to the DOH.

Patients with Covid-19 have used 38 percent of 3,400 ICU beds, 41 percent of 19,500 isolation beds, 41 percent of 13,500 ward beds, and 17 percent of 2,900 ventilators nationwide to date.

In the meantime, the NCR has 52 percent of 1,100 ICU beds, 54 percent of 4,700 isolation beds, 67 percent of 4,800 ward beds, and 25% of 1,000 ventilators dedicated to Covid-19 patients.
