On laptops, bar examinees can save and view reviewer files.
Under the amended guidelines for the Bar examinations coming up next month, the Supreme Court (SC) would allow reviewer files in computers and lunch break reviews.
Examinees may keep reviewers on their laptops, according to the SC, but they must be saved in folders and not downloaded from Cloud accounts.
Examinees will be able to utilize their own laptops and the Examplify test software for the first time. Other devices are not permitted.
“Handwritten examinations will be allowed in very exceptional cases where it can be adequately proven that the examinee suffers from a physical disability that prevents them from taking the examinations through a computer,” stated the most recent bulletin, which updated Bar Bulletin No. 18 from February of last year.
Examinees may open their laptops to access their files for last-minute reviews after completing the security and health check at the start of the exams on February 4 and 6.
During lunch breaks, file reviews are also permitted, either in designated areas or inside the exam room.
Examinees have 30 minutes before the bell rings at 7:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. to close all reviewers and other associated files.
Examinees are not allowed to connect to the Internet at any time unless they have been given permission. Use of social media is also prohibited.
On the proctor’s signal, an Internet connection can be accessed only inside the testing room for downloading questionnaires and later uploading answer files.
Once the exam has commenced, the Examplify software is designed to prevent examinees from seeing other files.
Bar Bulletin No. 35 stated, “Trying to access files during the exam proper is a useless attempt and a violation of the honor code.” “Attempting to connect to the Internet while inside the premises of the local testing center for any reason other than downloading the examination file and submitting the answer file is considered cheating.”
Talking to fellow examinees is still illegal, as is sharing files or even exhibiting what’s on their laptop screens.
A physical distance of at least two meters shall be maintained throughout the examinations and within the test site premises.
“We will not accept any type of cheating.” Anyone discovered breaking these restrictions will be instantly barred from taking the 2020/21 Bar Exams and any future Bar Exams. Any violation of the Honor Code will not be given a second chance, according to the bulletin.
An examinee must bring a battery-powered, WiFi-enabled laptop with a 2.0 GHz Intel i3 CPU, at least 4 gigabytes (GB) of random-access memory (RAM), a working universal serial bus (USB) interface, and at least 4GB of hard drive space running on Mac or Windows operating systems.
Mac users will need at least OS 10.14 (Mojave) and the authentic version, as well as an Intel processor, 4GB of RAM, and 4GB of hard disk space.
All testing rooms will have surveillance cameras installed.
