The municipal administration is preparing for the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) immunization to be rolled out for children aged five to eleven.

The local health officer, Dr. Dulce Amor Miravite, stated Thursday that the immunizations for the smallest age group, as well as the necessary syringes, are still being ordered. The launch date was not given.

Miravite added that in preparation for the launch, they have begun registering eligible children, cooperating with other authorities like the Department of Education, arranging schedules, and preparing a list of vaccine sites, among other things.

“At this time, registration for the youngest age group is still taking place at various health clinics,” she stated.

An awareness campaign on the benefits of vaccination and other problems relating to the children’s vaccination rollout is also being ramped up, according to the official, to make people, particularly parents and guardians, aware of the government’s current anti-Covid-19 stance.

According to Miravite, their office plans to vaccinate 150,000 to 200,000 youngsters from 5 to 11 years old against Covid-19.

In the meanwhile, she urged parents and guardians to obtain the child’s birth certificate or certificate of guardianship, as well as identification cards for both the child and the parents or guardians, doctor’s certifications for those with comorbidities, and other documentation.

Children aged 5 to 11 can now be vaccinated against Covid-19 at selected pilot sites in the National Capital Region, according to the Department of Health’s central office.
