CITY OF KORONADAL – In an interview on Monday, the spokeswoman for the Department of Education in Region 12 (DepEd-12) revealed that 156 schools in Soccsksargen (Region 12) are now executing the pilot run of face-to-face (F2F) lessons.

In the next weeks, other schools are likely to join the limited F2F classes, pending the implementation of the in-person mode of instruction by other schools in the region, according to Antonio Maganto Jr., a Deped-12 spokeswoman.

“As of now, we have that amount,” Maganto said, “but there’s a chance it will go up due to the application of schools from other areas and municipalities in the region that are now ready for F2F lessons.”

He named Esperanza National High School and Tacurong City Pilot Elementary School, both in Sultan Kudarat province, as two of the schools that began offering F2F sessions on Monday.

Although vaccination against the coronavirus 2019 (Covid-19) is being explored for the pilot run of limited in-person classes, Maganto emphasized that it is not a requirement, despite the fact that many participants are vaccinated for safety reasons.

“DepEd is non-discriminatory,” Maganto added, “but we want to secure the safety of the children, and vaccination is already an applied science with proven of efficacy.”

He claims that about 80% of the teachers in Soccsksargen have been vaccinated and that only those who have been vaccinated are allowed to participate in the F2F classes.

“Some (teachers) have yet to receive their injections. “The Department of Education respects their position on immunization,” Maganto remarked.

There are eight DepEd divisions in Soccsksargen, with an estimated 24,000 teachers and 7,000 non-teaching workers spread throughout at least 1,700 elementary schools and 500 secondary schools.
