Macron’s election victory has been certified by the French Constitutional Council.
PARIS – The results of France’s recent presidential election were verified by the Constitutional Council on Wednesday, confirming Emmanuel Macron as president.
According to Laurent Fabius, president of the council, 35,096,478 of France’s 48,752,339 registered voters voted, putting the abstention rate to 28.01 percent.
Macron received an absolute majority of 18,768,638 votes in the second round of the election on April 24. (58.55 percent of the valid ballots cast).
Macron’s second term must start no later than May 14th, according to the legislation.
Marine Le Pen, a far-right contender, won 13,288,686 votes, or 41.45% of the vote.
