Pangasinan saw a 53% decrease in dengue cases.
From January 1 to August 29 of this year, the Provincial Health Office (PHO) reported 1,822 dengue cases, a 53 percent decrease from the 3,919 cases reported during the same period previous year.
According to information given to the Philippine News Agency on Tuesday, July had the highest number of cases this year, at 690.
The virus often affects people between the ages of 10 and 14 years old.
This year, dengue has been linked to three fatalities. The most recent victim was a guy from San Quintin town who was 41 years old.
In a phone interview, PHO director Dr. Anna Ma. Teresa de Guzman attributed the decline to increased public knowledge of the threat of dengue and PHO efforts to avoid it.
“We are stepping up health promotion in rural health units and communities, especially in the areas under monitoring,” she added.
She noted that the provincial government-run hospitals had designated lanes for dengue victims.
San Carlos City has 204 cases, Malasiqui Town has 129, Urdaneta City has 117, Sta. Barbara has 88, Calasiao has 83, Lingayen has 79, Alaminos City has 71, Binmaley has 64, Mapandan has 64, and Villasis has 53 cases. These towns and cities are under the supervision of PHO.
In the Ilocos Region, the Department of Health Center for Health Development is constantly advising the populace to practice the 4S to stay cautious against the disease, particularly during the rainy season.
The 4S entails looking for and eliminating mosquito breeding grounds, taking care of oneself, obtaining early advice, and supporting fogging if there is clustering.
