Repairs on sludge removal equipment 75% done: Maynilad
Maynilad Water Services Inc. (Maynilad) said on Thursday that 75 percent of the repairs to the equipment that gets rid of sludge at their treatment plant in Putatan, Muntinlupa City, are now done.
“We want to let the public know that 75% of the repairs to the equipment for getting rid of sludge are done. This has allowed us to increase water production to 91% and gradually reduce the number of customers affected or extend the time when water is available, Maynilad said in a statement sent to the Philippine News Agency on Thursday.
Maynilad made the promise after the water service was cut off in Muntinlupa City because their treatment plant was producing less water. It did this after accepting the results of an investigation by the Metropolitan Manila Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS-RO) and offering to give rebates to customers who were affected.
Maynilad said, “We have accepted the results of MWSS RO’s investigation and have offered to give a rebate to our customers in the south whose water service was cut off recently.”
“Said interruptions were caused by our treatment plant in Putatan, Muntinlupa’s lower output, which was caused by broken sludge removal equipment and an increase in the turbidity of raw water from Laguna Lake,” it said.
The water company said that they are now only stabilizing the system at the treatment plant. By the end of the month, everything should be back to normal.
“Right now, all we’re doing is stabilizing the plant’s system, which was messed up by the broken equipment, and keeping an eye on the trend of turbidity in the raw water supply. “If nothing goes wrong, the water service should be back to normal by the end of January 2023 or sooner,” Maynilad said.
Maynilad has the most customers of any private water concessionaire in the Philippines.
It is the MWSS concessionaire for the West Zone of the Greater Manila Area, which includes parts of Manila, Quezon City, Makati (west of the South Super Highway), Caloocan, Pasay, Paranaque, Las Pinas, Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, Navotas, and Malabon in Metro Manila, as well as the cities of Cavite, Bacoor, and Imus and the towns of Kawit, Noveleta
